Norma K. Contreras, age 91, passed away peacefully in Chicago, Illinois, surrounded by the grace and mercy of the Lord. A woman of unwavering faith, she has now been called home to eternal rest, where she rejoices in the presence of God.
Born in the Philippines, Norma was the eldest among her siblings, a role she embraced with strength, compassion, and a servant’s heart. In the 1970’s, she bravely journeyed to the United States on her own, placing her trust in God’s guidance every step of the way. Her life was a testament to courage, perseverance, and faith. Norma was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, which served as the foundation of her life. She was an active and beloved member of her church community, where she shared her gift of song as part of the Filipino choir. Through her voice, she offered praise to the Lord and brought comfort and joy to all who heard her.
She carried herself with grace and dignity, always presenting herself beautifully – often in her signature heels – reflecting the confidence and self-respect that defined her spirit.
Her love for cooking was another expression of her generosity. She welcomed others with open arms and a full table, especially when sharing her cherished pancit, reminding all the importance of fellowship and love.
Norma was blessed with a close-knit circle of friends who became like family to her. She valued these relationships deeply and found joy in companionship, laughter, and shared memories. She also embraced the beauty of God’s creation through her love of travel, always eager to see more of the world.
Above all, Norma lived a life rooted in faith, love, and service. She trusted in God’s plan, carried herself with strength and grace, and touched countless lives with her kindness and devotion. Though she will be deeply missed, her family and friends take comfort in knowing that she now rests in the eternal peace of Christ, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.”
