

Stella O. Hernandez, age 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday the 27th of February surrounded by her family and beloved husband of 69 years Sirito A. Hernandez. Stella, mother of Sirito George Hernandez (father of Sirina), Marian (Luis) Cuellar , Donna(David)Puffenbarger ,Geraldine (Ronald)Schmitz and Louis(Priscilla)Hernandez
Stella was born in the town of Garden City Kansas to humble beginnings, she’s the eldest daughter of Epimenio and Soledad Otero. She moved her family to Chicago to follow Sirito and his ambitions for higher education. She became involved with Chicago politics and advocating for immigrants and their young families entering the city, she became a parent liaison at Goudy Elementary and worked for Chicago Public Schools for 28 years.
Stella’s passion was truly her family. She was always around family, crocheting and cooking were two of her creative outlets. She loved watching her novelas, chatting with family and friends. She was a true believer in her favorite Saint, La Virgen de la Guadalupe.
She is survived by her husband Sirito, six brothers, Jessie Otero of Garden City Kansas Tony Otero of Garden City, Kansas, Ralph Otero of Wichita, Kansas, Lupe Otero of Wichita, Kansas, Raul Otero of Holcomb, Kansas, Vincent Otero of Florida, Her four sisters, Mary Martin of Wichita, Kansas, Gina Crow of Wichita, Kansas, Emily Vallejo of Wichita, Kansas, Alice Breeding of West Virginia Deceased Two brothers Garibel Otero of Garden City Kansas and Daniel Otero of Garden City.
Stella was grandmother to 15 Grandchildren and had 10 great-grandchildren
