Steven H. Schulz, Paramedic Field Chief (Ret. CFD) passed away suddenly at the age of 69. Beloved husband of Jennifer (CFD). Loving father of Jeffry and Rebecca. Dearest son of the late Harold and Dorothy Schulz. Brother to Timothy (late Kim) Schulz, Betty (Curtis) Galauskas and the late Richard (Janice) Schulz. Dear son-in-law of John & Meg Battles. Fond Uncle & Great Uncle to many nieces and nephews

Steve was a dedicated Chicago Fire Department Paramedic serving the citizens of Chicago for over 35 years. A lifelong diehard Bears & Cubs fan, he loved living life as only he could through his mantra of “Just Be.” In retirement he loved to travel with Jenn – exploring new places, going on different adventures, learning and trying new things and spending time with friends while enjoying a good meal. As an avid naturalist he loved spending his time outdoors gardening, having campfires, snorkeling in the oceans, riding his motorcycle and chilling on the beach. Steve traversed the US with not only his wife, but his trusted companion and faithful dog Stella and planned to do the same with his new puppy Gracie. He loved all creatures as well as plants and owned more cacti than any person in the northern Midwest should. Steve kept his yard as natural as possible to attract and support all of nature and even built an indoor pond for his turtles. He loved football, and alongside his wife, became intricately involved in women’s tackle football for over 20 years; cultivating special friendships along the way with people who he considered family especially with Maria K. and Jain S. Steve had a profound impact on everyone he met leaving all with at least one “Steve Story”. Steve will deeply be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Steve’s name may be made to:

A visitation for Steven will be held Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646, followed by a chapel service at 4:00 PM.
