Teresa Andrade

It is with deep sadness and endless love we share the passing of Teresa Andrade (Teresita del niño Jesus Proaño), devoted wife, committed mother, doting grandmother (Bita), and dedicated woman of faith. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on May 16, 2026 at the age of 82.

Teresita was born in Quito, Ecuador in 1944 to Jorge Proaño and Imelda Armendaris. She grew up in a blended family and often reminisced of her time with aunts, uncles and many cousins. She came to the U.S. in 1968 and built a beautiful life with her loving husband of 57 years.

Teresita lived a life centered on family, compassion, and quiet strength. She was deeply devoted to the Catholic Church and carried a lifelong faith in the Virgen de Guadalupe, believing her guidance and protection would always watch over those she loved.

Teresita is remembered for her unparalleled ability to nurture. She would do anything for her loved ones, including pets, without complaint. From tailoring clothes to making caldo de pollo anytime she heard someone sniffle, had an ache or just needed extra love. Her kindness, warmth, and steady presence touched everyone around her and made her home a sanctuary to family and friends alike. A place where doors were always open, advice was shared without judgment, and love was given without condition. She taught her family the true meaning of grace, sacrifice, and the quiet beauty of putting others first.

Teresita is survived by her loving husband, Marcelo Andrade; her adoring children, Patricia (Jose), Jaime (Karen), and Johanna (Juan); and her cherished grandchildren, Myles, Alexis (Anthony), Jacquelyn, Emily, James, John, Joseph, and Julia. She is also survived by her siblings, nieces, nephews and in-laws and leaves behind a circle of friends who were blessed to call her family.

Though her family mourns her passing, they take comfort in the memories, faith, and love she leaves behind. Her legacy will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

May she rest in peace under the loving care of the Virgen de Guadalupe.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that, in her honor, you check in with those you love, “en vida” as she would say.

A visitation for Teresa will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Saint Mary of the Lake Catholic Church (4220 N. Sheridan Road, Chicago, IL) from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A Funeral Mass will begin at the church on Friday at 11:00 am.

Con profunda tristeza y amor infinito compartimos el fallecimiento de Teresa Andrade (Teresita del Niño Jesús Proaño), esposa devota, madre orgullosa, abuela consentidora (Bita) y mujer de fe. Falleció en paz en su hogar, rodeada de sus seres queridos, el 16 de mayo de 2026 a la edad de 82 años.

Teresita nació en Quito, Ecuador, en 1944, hija de Jorge Proaño e Imelda Armendáriz. Creció en una familia unida y siempre recordaba con cariño el tiempo compartido con sus tías, tíos y muchos primos. Llegó a los Estados Unidos en 1968 y formó una hermosa vida junto a su amado esposo por 57 años.

Teresita vivió una vida centrada en la familia, la compasión y la fortaleza silenciosa. Fue profundamente devota de la Iglesia Católica y mantuvo durante toda su vida una fe inquebrantable en la Virgen de Guadalupe, creyendo que su guía y protección siempre velarán por aquellos a quienes amaba.

Teresita será recordada por su incomparable capacidad de cuidar y dar amor. Haría cualquier cosa por sus seres queridos, incluyendo sus mascotas, sin jamás quejarse. Desde arreglar ropa hasta preparar un caldo de pollo apenas escuchaba a alguien resfriado, con algún dolor o simplemente necesitado de cariño extra. Su bondad, calidez y presencia constante tocaron la vida de todos a su alrededor e hicieron de su hogar un santuario para familiares y amigos. Un lugar donde las puertas siempre estaban abiertas, los consejos se daban sin juzgar y el amor se ofrecía sin condición. Enseñó a su familia el verdadero significado de la gracia, el sacrificio y la belleza silenciosa de poner a los demás primero.

Teresita deja a su amado esposo, Marcelo Andrade; a sus adorados hijos, Patricia (José), Jaime (Karen) y Johanna (Juan); y a sus queridos nietos, Myles, Alexis (Anthony), Jacquelyn, Emily, James, John, Joseph y Julia. También le sobreviven sus hermanos - Martha, Luis (Sonia), Fernando (Silvia), Fabian, Alex (Luis) y Diego, sobrinos y cuñados, y deja atrás un círculo de amigos bendecidos de haberla llamado familia.

Aunque su familia lamenta profundamente su partida, encuentra consuelo en los recuerdos, la fe y el amor que ella deja como legado. Su recuerdo permanecerá para siempre en los corazones de todos los que la conocieron y amaron.

Que descanse en paz bajo el amoroso cuidado de la Virgen de Guadalupe.

En lugar de flores, la familia solicita amablemente que, en su honor, acompañen y se acerquen a sus seres queridos, “en vida”, como ella decía.
