Born on March 15, 1940, in the Philippines, Tessie was the daughter of the late Glicerio C. Cagulada and Maria Curso, and she was lovingly raised by her second mother, Genoveva L. Cagulada. She courageously started a new chapter by immigrating to the United States mid 1960, initially settling in Iowa before moving to Chicago in 1978 with her two teenage children, Ritha Gail and Marcos.
She leaves a lasting legacy of love through her children and grandchildren—Allen, Aaron, Alexis, Earl, and Matthew. Tessie enjoyed working as an OR nurse, retiring from Masonic Hospital at age 78. She is also survived by her sisters, Tita Virgi and Tita Nene and faithful friends.
Lola Tessie will be remembered for her steadfast faith, love and deep devotion in God. She loved dressing up, getting prettied up, natural beauty, attending dances, going out with friends, and traveling. She often made annual pilgrimage trips to Mexico, (the home land of Mother Guadalupe), Europe and seeing the Pope in the Philippines. She led a simple, fulfilling and happy life, a life that reflected resilience, generosity, kindness, and joy. She touched everyone who knew her and will be deeply missed and forever cherished. She left us with fond everlasting memories and will Forever be in our Hearts, RIP Lola Tessie
