My condolences, prayers and God's blessing to the Barkulis family.

Virginia, I always looked forward to seeing you whenever I went over to the Huntley household. You always had a way of making me smile. You always found a way to include me and make me feel like a part of the family. I am so grateful that I got to spend some time with you. I know that you have had a large positive impact on Ted's life. Rest in peace, you will always have a place in our hearts.

Virginia Barkulis is my Grandmother. She is my Yia Yia. I was lucky enough to have her live at my house at the very end. It was a joy to give her my attention and care in her old age. She was a wonderful kindhearted woman and I will probably never know anyone in this world who was more generous with her love. You will live on in my heart Yia Yia!

Mrs. Barkulis had a heart of gold.  She was very proud of her family and loved them deeply.  She will be missed by everyone so much.  She is no longer here, but her spirit lives on through all the wonderful memories that will be shared.  She is certainly watching over her family and friends and sending them her love every day.

Thea Virginia - you were a wonderful person with a such a special heart.  We will miss you every day.  Thank you for being such a great brother to my dad and wonderful aunt to us.  Lots of love, Angela, Donny, Wyatt and Tessa Spehar

To know Virginia is to realize just how generous she was.  Early on and invisible to most, I wondered why all the donation fliers on the family kitchen table.  You see, Virginia donated money to people she did not know, people who were blind, people who were poor, people of a different color and people outside her neighborhood.  Clearly, an attribute adults and children could learn from and follow today.  
She stood as a strong person from her days on the hilltop family farm in Filiatra, Greece to her long days toiling at Aberdeen's Florist while keeping roost over her home.  As a woman of her word, she had a plan and purpose executing all so the pieces would fall into place much like a great puzzle.  As a visitor in her home, you found yourself quickly being treated as a guest complete with her stories of the war, family shenanigans, her garden and Chicago neighborhood.  
I am humbled by her generosity.  
The world is a better place because of Virginia.
