She was born on June 4,1944 in Sylacauga, AL to James Clifton Giddens and Louise Catherine Carter Giddens. She grew up in Childersburg, AL and graduated from CHS in 1962. It was there that she met her high school sweetheart, Butch, when he stopped to help her with a flat tire. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before his passing in 2024.
Carolyn worked as a hairdresser for several years, then went on to a career in civil service at Redstone Arsenal, where she retired. While raising her family, coaching softball for her daughters, and working full time, she managed to obtain her college degree from Athens State University.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glen David (Butch) Wallenfang, and her parents, James Clifton and Louise Giddens.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Cecilia Hays (Eric), Tomball, TX; Toni Shumate, Huntsville, AL; brother Wayne Giddens (Linda), Port St. Lucie, FL; sister Janice Dyer (Harold), Mocksville, NC; and 5 grandchildren; Dr. Matt Mitchell (Rachel), Dr. Charlsie Prein (Kelsey), Cody Shumate (Hannah), Alesia Shumate, Shawn Wallenfang and 8 Great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Curtis and Sons Funeral Home, Childersburg, AL. Visitation is from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm with services following. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery. Reception following at Rainwater House in Childersburg, AL courtesy of the CHS Class of 1962.
