After 7 years in Alberta, Alma left for Burnaby, BC, and later for Abbotsford, with her family. Alma grew up as her Dad's helper and learned to love being outside with nature and its inhabitants, and to work very hard.
However, Alma also was known for her sense of fun, and mischief, with activities often coauthored by some cousins or close friends. Alma also wrote many humourous poems and skits for special occasions in her lifetime.
Alma enjoyed her time on the school basketball team. She was a good athlete and learned kinesiology, massage and first aid as the coach's helper.
Alma was raised to have a strong sense of generosity and hospitality and lived this in her life, both with organized groups, and simply as a welcoming hostess.
Through church, Alma met her handsome, tanned Dutchman, Henry Lanting. They were married July 30, 1958, and moved to their own dairy farm in Agassiz the following year.
Son Keith arrived in January 1964, and daughter Juanita in August 1968.
After 56 years of ups and downs but always much love, Henry's passing in 2014 from lung cancer left a big hole in Alma's life. Alma purchased a home in a wonderful community of homes next to the community where her sister lived. The two checked on each other daily until Hermina moved to a suite at her daughter's home on Alma's old dairy farm.
Alma went to the hospital to find relief from her extreme back pain, and cancer was discovered through much of her body. Less than one month later, her earthly journey ended while sleeping peacefully on October 14, 2026.
Predeceased by her parents and parents-in-law, her husband Henry, brothers-in-law Martin Brink, John Pranger, John and Sidney Lanting, and sister-in-law Ena Lanting, Alma is leaving behind and being missed fiercely by: her children Keith and Neleen Lanting, along with their children Janice, Brittany, Bradley, Dorianna, and Dailan (Mckayla) and their grandchildren Kaiden, Kaci, Isabel and Odin; Juanita and Wayne Reitsema, along with their children Nicole (Paul), Russell, Lindsay (Jason), and Valerie (Dylan) and their grandchildren Oliver, Levi, Theo and Aya; her sister Hermina Brink and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; John and Ena's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Sylvia and her children and grandchildren; her brother- and sister-in-law Mike and Anne and their children and grandchildren; many cousins; and many friends made throughout the years, particularly her dear friends from Agassiz CRC and Chilliwack FRC, close neighbours, and her "other daughter" Joanne Schweitzer.
