Alvin was born January 23, 1945 to John and Lena (Klassen) Peters in Winnipegosis, Manitoba. He was the second oldest of five children, but a beloved brother and friend to many foster siblings.
After his family moved to Abbotsford in 1953, Alvin worked on their farm and eventually attended post-secondary education to become an aircraft mechanic. He eventually fell into the construction trade and worked diligently far beyond the normal retirement age, eventually retiring at the age of 71.
Alvin met his wife Ingrid in 1987 and they married on December 3, 1988. He welcomed her son, Michael, aged nine at the time, as his own. In 1991, they began fostering their daughter Brittany as an infant, which led to her eventual adoption in 1996.
Anyone who knew Alvin knew him as a quiet but steadfast presence in the family. He is fondly remembered as a devoted mentor to his younger siblings, children, nieces, and nephews. He had a never-ending love for babies and children, and it was customary for him to be seen holding and caring for the most recent addition to the family at any gathering. He was known for his hard work and dedication to beautifying his home and bettering the life of those around him.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Ingrid; son, Michael Paulsen; daughter, Brittany (Dave) Townsend; grandson, Marcus Townsend; brothers, Eugene (Kelly) and Robert (Carol); sisters, Louella (Bill) Rempel, Vera Ganderton, Kris Ryan and Ev Ryan; and many other loving nieces, nephews and relatives. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, and foster brother Johnny.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Sardis Fellowship Baptist Church in Chilliwack, British Columbia.
