Annie Mabel Smith passed away on June 12, 2026 in Chilliwack at age 100 years. Mabel was born in 1926 in Chance Cove, Newfoundland on March 29, 1926 to parents John and Joanna Upshall. She was the oldest of six more children to follow.
She grew up in Chance Cove and moved to BC with her husband in 1953. She has lived in Chilliwack ever since. She worked at Fraser Valley Foods and York Farms decades ago.
She was one amazing woman, and she was always there for her family. She never had an empty house. Family and friends were always there, making lots of precious memories. She spent lots of hours knitting and crocheting items, and she loved her rocking chair. Her sense of humor had many of us laughing over the years. Mabel was a huge cat lover, and had a cat her whole life. She loved gardening, and would rather be outside than in.
Mabel is survived by her sisters Anita and Alice and brother Leslie, plus numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Mack (Ronald Malcom Smith); brothers George and Sam; sister Nellie and her infant sister Rebecca.
She was the glue that held her family together for decades. She always kept in contact as best she could. We would like to say that we all loved her so much and she will be missed dearly.
A graveside service will be held in Newfoundland at a later date.
