Denis was born on November 25, 1935, in Fairview, Alberta, to parents Hector and Blanche (Siegan) Girard. He is now reunited with his beloved wife of 62 years, Anna (Foesier) Girard, his son, Kenneth J. Girard, and many other family members.
Denis is survived by his daughter, Cheryl, and her husband, Lee, along with his loving granddaughters, Stephanie and Kelsey, who adored him. He is also survived by his partner, Blanche, who took such great care of him over the past several years; his sister, Cecile (Fred) Dewick; his brother, Maurice Girard; and many nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
Denis held many jobs throughout his life, starting as a tugboat chef before working in a bakery and then joining the military (Army). While stationed in Vernon, he met his wife, Anna. He later began his career as a meat butcher in Calgary, Alberta, before moving to British Columbia. In BC, he worked as the meat manager in Gibsons, where he took great pride in his meat counter displays and won several awards for his work.
Denis had many passions throughout his life, including playing drums in a pipe band (Calgary Highlander), being involved with the Elks in Calgary, fly fishing on the Fraser River, cheering on his favourite football team (Go 49ers!), woodworking, and cooking. Many of these activities were enjoyed with the occasional glass of Busch beer.
Denis was always quick with a joke or sarcastic comeback, keeping those around him laughing. His humour and personality will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
He will be forever missed but will always remain in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Chilliwack at a time and place yet to be determined.
