Arthur Daher

Arthur (Art) Daher was born in Winnipeg on August 11, 1932, to William and Bertha Daher. He was a sincere follower of Jesus and often said he was “the richest man on earth because my children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren serve the Lord.” He loved his family and challenged each one to follow their dreams, wherever God would lead them.

In 1950 Art met the love of his life, Adeline Schmidt. They married in 1953. Art worked briefly for IBM as a technician, but resigned when he was asked to uproot his young family and move to New York.

Art leaves a legacy of godly character, integrity, kindness, and friendship in the community, and generosity in supporting churches and missions abroad. An entrepreneur at heart, he urged people to follow their calling – without letting others limit them.

Realtors who worked for Art and some of his mentees attribute their success to his encouragement over the years: “Of course you can do it!”

Art liked to golf and spent many happy hours playing darts and table tennis in the basement with his kids. He infused his love of music into all his children and grandchildren, providing private lessons and good instruments even when it was financially difficult. His babysitting skills were legendary in that, as long as the house wasn’t on fire, he remained unperturbed.

Art co-owned Ferro Steel Industries with “Bill” Maretzki in Winnipeg, then followed his parents to Chilliwack in 1967. He built homes for two years and owned a laundromat. He found his calling in the real estate industry in 1971, winning many awards for sales.

Shortly thereafter, Art opened his own office, Dare Realty, before starting Nyda Realty with a partner (now REMAX Nyda Realty). Art genuinely cared for his staff and is remembered for his mantra “get more listings.” He loved to serve and upon retirement, turned his violin hobby into a 20-year career as a luthier, playing for the Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra for a few years and fixing kids’ instruments at music camps. He encouraged many young musicians to develop and enjoy their talents.

Art passed away peacefully after a few hours in hospital on December 13, 2020. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Adeline (Schmidt); four children: Lawrence (Doris), Rosemarie (Waldemar) Kowalski, Norman (Carrie), and William; ten grandchildren: Kristi (Knut) Neugebauer, Jeremy (Rebekah) Kowalski, Kirsten Kowalski, Timothy (Melissa) Kowalski, and Jonathan Kowalski, Leslie (Josh) Young, Christina, Ashley (Paul) Daher, Lemuel Daher and Adelina Daher; as well as sixteen great- grandchildren who loved their Grandpapa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Thelma Aeichele, Norman, and Reinhard, daughter-in-law Miriam Daher, his oldest grandson Lawrence Daher, Jr., and great-grandson Nevin Neugebauer.
