Born to Bernie and Carol Boucher of Smiths Falls, Ontario, Barb grew up with a vibrant spirit. She was the deeply loved little sister to Cathy, Dawna, Judi, and Stephen. Her childhood roots instilled a lifelong love for the outdoors, and she was always happiest when tending to her gardens, camping, turkey hunting, or fishing for salmon and halibut in the waters off Port McNeill.
Her dedicated career in the military brought incredible adventures, including memorable travels to England. Later in life she brought her leadership and passion to British Columbia, where she settled on the West Coast and was actively involved in the opening of a primary school in Mission, BC. She quickly made wonderful friends across the Lower Mainland who became like a second family. Though she fell in love with BC, a piece of her heart always remained in Ontario, and she deeply missed her family and friends in the Ottawa area.
For 24 beautiful years, Barb was married to her loving mate, Alex. When Alex retired, their adventures truly took off. Together they camped, drove to Alaska and across Canada/US, and enjoyed many cherished "sister trips" to Florida. Back hom, she was an avid golfer, a passionate gardener, a skilled crafter, a talented seamstress, and an enthusiast of nice cares. She was a die-hard football fan, always cheering loudly for the Minnesota Vikings, and nothing made her happier than enjoying Alex's cooking.
Her home was filled with love for her fur babies-Bongo, Bambi, Beaugie and Maverick-and her massive, lifelong collection of bunnies. The bunny was truly her spirit animal, representing her gentle heart and playful energy.
For 13 years, Barb faced a courageous journey with multiple myeloma before taking on a case of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. She fought with unmatched strength and optimism, a truly fierce warrier who proudly wore her battle tattoo to prove it. Through it all, she never lost her joyful essence. She was always happy, constantly smiling, and blessed with an infectious attitude and a great laugh that could brighten up any room.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Alex; her loving parents, Bernie and Carol Boucher; her siblings, Cathy (Gerry), Dawna, Judi, and Stephen; her many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and her god daughters Tracy and April, her extended family in Ottawa; and a wide circle of close friends across the Lower Mainland.
There will be a private celebration of life with close friends and family in both Ottawa and Chilliwack at a later date, however Barb welcomes anyone who knew her to raise a glass, tee it off for a round of golf, or just enjoy a campfire while remembering the time they spent together.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Multiple Myeloma Research or leukemia research foundations.
