Carl Arthur Laverne Kreiger

Carl was born on December 2, 1931, on a farm in Ninette, Manitoba, to parents Charlie and Daisy Kreiger. He grew up alongside his sister Marjorie and brother Lawrence, learning early the values of hard work, family, and resilience that shaped his entire life. As a young man, Carl moved to Winnipeg, where he trained as a mechanic. It was there he met his first wife, Betty. Together, Carl and Betty raised five children. Carl shared 53 years of loving marriage with Betty until her passing in 2007.

In 2009, he married Dianne, and their years together brought comfort, companionship, and much happiness.

Carl’s life was one of dedication and determination. In 1963, he took on a new adventure moving his family from Manitoba to Kamloops, BC, working as a mechanic and at an auto wrecker’s. In 1970, Carl and Betty purchased the Lone Butte General Store, facing and overcoming the devastating loss of their store and home to a fire in 1973. They rebuilt, persevered, and later relocated to Vanderhoof, where Carl worked at Golden Rule Farm Equipment, Plateau Mills and the School Bus Garage. In 1980, Carl and Betty purchased the McLeod Lake Chevron/Petrocan Station. After selling the station, Carl semiretired working winters highway maintenance at the Pine Pass yard in Honeymoon Creek and summers travelling with his motorhome before eventually moving permanently to Chilliwack in the mid 90’s. Even in retirement, Carl continued mechanical work with Chilliwack Taxi and spent a season working at a golf course.

Carl was a member of the Chilliwack Elk’s Club, serving as exalted ruler, and a devoted member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he participated in church life until moving to Valleyhaven in 2022.

Carl is lovingly remembered by his children: Gary, Vanderhoof, BC; Carlyle (Marion)Fort St John, B.C, Kayla (Jeffrey Redpath)Prince George, B.C.; Betty-Lou Klassen, Vanderhoof, B.C.; and Joan (Phil Macgillivray) Fort St James, BC; his wife Dianne; his sister Marjory Stubbington; and his brother Lawrence (Rose Kreiger).

He leaves behind a large and cherished family of nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, all direct descendants who carry his legacy forward. Carl was predeceased by his first wife, Betty; his infant grandson David Redpath; granddaughter Jackie Inyallie; and great-granddaughter Krissy Woodford.

Carl will be remembered for his steady hands, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy is one of strength, perseverance, and love.
