It is with the greatest of sorrow that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, and grandmother, Dorothy, peacefully in Chilliwack while surrounded by her family. Left to grieve are her husband of 56 years, Lewis; daughter Deirdre; son Fraser (Maureen); grandsons Parker and Cameron and many friends and relatives.
Dot was born in Glasgow, Scotland and raised on the Isle of Barra, with Gaelic as her first language. Returning to the mainland in her late teens she pursued a career in the hospitality industry where she met the love of her life, Lew, while both were working at the Covenanters Inn in Aberfoyle. They married in 1960 and set up home in Glasgow. In 1967, seeking open spaces and greater opportunity for themselves and their descendants, they emigrated to Canada and settled in Surrey where they raised their family. In the mid-1980s she enrolled in post-secondary education at both Kwantlan and Douglas Colleges, culminating in a Diploma in Long Term Care Aide and embarked upon a career at Surrey Memorial Hospital thereafter. Following retirement, Dot and Lew moved to Parksville where they followed their dream of traveling the world for ten years before returning to the lower mainland and settling in Chilliwack.
Pursuant to Dot’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. At a later date, there will be a small private celebration of her dedicated, loving and cherishing life. In lieu of flowers, you may consider a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation or a charity of your choice in Dorothy’s name. The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to the staff and volunteers of the Cascade Hospice in Chilliwack for their exceptionally loving and caring attention to Dot while she was a resident there.
Arrangements under the direction of Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, Chilliwack, BC.
