Born and raised in Yarrow, British Columbia, Edith was the second of nine children born to Aron and Olga Rempel. Her childhood was rooted deeply in the agricultural life of her family, and she proudly embraced her role as the daughter of the “Raspberry King.”
On August 28, 1956, Edith married Robert (Bob) Simpson at Sumas United Church in Greendale. Together, they built a life defined by family, community service, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. Edith carried with her a lifelong passion for gardening and landscape architecture, often found working alongside her father.
Edith’s professional life included positions with Eaton’s and Simpson Notaries. Her commitment to service extended far beyond the workplace. She served her community with distinction through leadership roles in the Kinettes and Rotary Annes, and she gave generously of her time with the Hospice Society and Victims Assistance programs.
Her devotion to children and to her faith was evident in her years as a Children’s Church Choir Director.
Edith’s hospitality was legendary. She and Bob opened their home to many people from around the world, and they often hosted “summer camps” for their children’s friends and their nieces and nephews.
Edie is survived by her husband Bob, and her children, Dean (Suzanne), Gary (Sharon), Joan (Phil) and Scott (Jacquie). Edie was the proud and dedicated grandma and great grandma to 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cascade Lodge for their compassionate care.
Donations in her honour may be made to the Chilliwack Foundation.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 2 pm at Broadway MB Church,46611 Maple Ave, Chilliwack, BC, with a reception following the service.
