Ed was born 02 December 1940 in Eston Saskatchewan to George and Peggy (Sutherland) Reekie. He received his education in Calgary, Alberta.
His early years were spent on the farm in Eston. At age 11 his family moved to Calgary. He had a great interest in wrestling and loved to stage wrestling matches on the front lawn. Once, he broke his ankle in the summer and played hockey that fall with a walking cast. It was the same height as his skate and he could still hit the puck! Growing up with close cousins, Peter Reekie and Bert Roberts, they got into a lot of teenage problems!
Ed moved to Creston in 1963 where he and his now ex-wife Lee Kitto raised their family. He was an electrician, a furnace installer, a weigh scale attendant and, for most of his years, a long-haul trucker. He was a dedicated volunteer in the Boy Scouts of Canada for many years.
Ed moved to Abbotsford in 1981, then to Hope for a time and then settled in Chilliwack. He spent many years as a driver for Glencoe Transport and finished his career in the trucking industry as the Safety Officer for a local trucking firm. He served as Director of the Western Canadian Transport Association.
He was a tough cookie. He overcame numerous medical challenges, came back from a broken neck, fought and won several battles with cancer.
After retirement he spent his time keeping up with his family, visiting with friends, living life the way he wanted. Ed was a wealth of information and knew how to fix just about everything and was willing to help with anything. A larger-than-life character that will not be forgotten by those who knew him.
The family would like to express special gratitude to his group of friends at the Husky, his favorite meeting place. Darcell, Roberta, John, Bruce, Karl, Gerald, Nick, Gene, Gerry, and Klaas. You folks watched out for him as he watched out for you.
Ed is survived by his children, daughter, Darlyne of Trail, BC, daughter Elizebeth (Jay) of Othello Washington, son, Cory of Kelowna, BC, sisters, Kathleen Walling (David) and Louise Kowal (John), granddaughters, Jessica (Don), Paige (Steph), Ashley (Ernest), and grandson, Dustin, great granddaughters, Madison and Katie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and one daughter, Kristyne.
In keeping with his wishes, services will not be held. Give him a honk as you pass down the freeway.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cancer Research or Care of your choice.
Rest easy Mr. Ed
