It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and beautiful force of nature.
She was the daughter of the late Edythe and Bob Stares, and she carried the importance of family with her throughout her entire life.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Stephen Pinter; her daughter Stephanie Harman and Stephanie’s son, Jake Harman; and her daughter Jennifer Green and her husband, Steve Green.
She was one of six children and was predeceased by all four of her beloved brothers: Ray and his wife, Kay; Buddy; Brian and his wife, Kim; and Bob. She is survived by her only living sibling, her sister Jayne, and Jayne’s husband, Sam.
She also leaves behind her niece Faith, daughter of her late brother Bob; Jayne and Sam’s children, Vincent and Desiree; and many other nieces and nephews who loved their aunt dearly.
And, of course, we cannot forget two very important members of her family—her beautiful puppies, Pumpkin and Bobby, who absolutely adored her. Bobby was lovingly named after her late brother Bob.
She was a woman who truly lived.
She loved adventure. She loved beautiful things. She loved to have fun, and she had a way of bringing life, laughter, and personality wherever she went. But perhaps the most remarkable thing about her was the size of her heart.
Throughout her life, she was always looking out for the underdog—the person who needed a little help, a little encouragement, somewhere to go, or simply someone to believe in them.
As a drug and alcohol counsellor, she devoted herself to helping people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Her compassion didn’t end when the workday was over. Helping people was simply part of who she was.
Our family can remember countless Christmases, Easters, and family dinners when there seemed to be an extra person sitting at the table—someone Mom had met who needed somewhere to be. To her, there was always room for one more.
Her faith was also at the very heart of who she was. She shared a close and deeply personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and her love for Him guided the way she lived each day. Her faith was not something she kept private or spoke about only in words—it was something she put into action through her compassion, generosity, forgiveness, and love for others.
She shared her faith with everyone she met, not by judging or preaching at them, but by welcoming them, listening to them, encouraging them, and showing them the love of Christ through her own life. She believed that every person mattered and that no one was beyond hope, grace, or redemption. Her relationship with Jesus gave her strength, comfort, and purpose, and she carried that light with her wherever she went.
She gave back to her community throughout her entire life. She helped friends, family, strangers, and people others may have overlooked. She didn’t just talk about compassion—she lived it. She continued giving of herself right until the end of her life.
She was deeply loved by so many people, and the impact she made cannot possibly be measured by a list of accomplishments or captured fully in an obituary. Her legacy lives in the people she helped, the family she loved, the lives she changed, and the countless acts of kindness that may never even be known to us.
We are devastated by her loss.
Her absence leaves an enormous space in our family and in our hearts, but so does the extraordinary life she lived.
She loved fiercely.
She gave generously.
She welcomed everyone.
She stood up for those who needed someone in their corner.
She lived her faith through love and service.
And she left this world having made it better for so many people simply because she was here.
Forever loved. Forever missed. And never, ever forgotten.
