Eric Alfred Mueller, otherwise known as Bobby, passed away peacefully to his heavenly home July 9th 2024 at Cascade Hospice with his family by his side. His willingness to help others will alway be remembered and admired.
Eric was born to Alexander and Gertrud Mueller, alongside his twin sister Erika, on July 24, 1964 in Chilliwack B.C. He was the youngest of 6 children. He grew up in Yarrow on the family farm raising beef, pigs, chickens and geese. Eric acquired a lot of carpentry skills from his dad and he learned the value of working hard and that definitely lasted with him throughout his whole life. Every child that came out of that house growing up developed a very strong work ethic, Eric was no exception.
Eric worked full time on the family farm after quitting school. After a short while he realized that there were opportunities elsewhere than the family farm and got a job working on the neighbour’s chicken and pig farm. He eventually graduated by getting his GED. Eric moved on from the chicken farm and worked construction before getting a job at the door factory in Yarrow. While working in Yarrow, Eric met Anita, who was working as a clerk at the Yarrow Supermarket. They started dating and eventually married in November of 1988. She was the love of his life. They shared 36 years together filled with love and many fond memories. Anita’s easy attitude complimented Eric’s strong will, they matched each other perfectly.
They lived together in his basement suite on the farm before moving to the hillside property on Vedder Mountain. They had three sons together there. Brad was born in 1990, Kyle was born in 1992 and Luke followed in 1994.
Shortly after moving to Vedder Mountain in 1990, Eric joined the Yarrow Fire Hall. He had a passion for helping people and being a leader that people trusted and respected. He took a lot of pride in his role and he impacted many lives serving his community and making many friends along the way. For 23 years he was an active member of the firehall and ended his career as a training captain.
Eric worked at the door factory in Yarrow from 1990 to 2004. Between the door factory and his involvement in the church, Eric was known by everyone and his handyman skills were relied on heavily for jobs big and small throughout the community.
In the year 2000, Eric, Anita and their boys moved to the property on Yarrow Central Road. Once established at their new home with a fully equipped workshop, Eric started Eric's Done Rite Renos in 2004 and he absolutely loved it. Using his skills and abilities to build and restore were what made him happy in life. His company had him pouring concrete, renovating homes and working in his shop. He met many of his closest friends during this time. Another accomplishment for Eric was when he led a program for Eco Works, teaching a group of students skills on building, tool safety and most importantly to him, a hard work ethic. Eric was proud of his work and multiple projects, however, he also shared many proud moments as well with Anita as they watched all three of their boys get married and start families of their own. Eric received a new title as Papa, a title he thoroughly enjoyed.
Eric is predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Gertrud Mueller, his siblings, Harry Mueller, and Erika Reti.
Eric is survived by his wife Anita Mueller, his children, Brad (Emily) Mueller, Kyle (Janessa) Mueller, Luke (Taylor) Mueller; his grandchildren, Dallas Mueller, Walker Mueller, Malek Mueller, Nova Mueller and Wren Mueller; and by his siblings, Toby Peters, Margaret Johnson, and Rita Chadsey.
Eric received his diagnosis of Glioblastoma in May 2022. Even after many rounds of radiation and constant chemotherapy for the next two years he continued to operate as business as usual with visiting with friends, still doing the odd jobs here and there and enjoying some time at his favorite place to be, the Merrit property.
It was amazing to see the amount of friends that drove him into his treatments, that's what a lifetime of giving and helping people out does and this time it was his turn to get some help. He didn't see the hospital as a place to get better, but as a place to meet new people and make friends. Our family is forever grateful for the love and support he received from what felt like everybody. Eric was never a guy to ask for help but we know he appreciated it and was honored to have all the love.
Throughout his life, and even through his struggle with cancer, Eric enjoyed some of his favourite things. This included a good cup of coffee, especially when enjoyed with friends around a wood stove, rock and roll music, and a well organized workshop.
The amount of people Eric helped and befriended throughout his life will live on forever. Eric lived life to the fullest and he will be sorely missed. His shoes on this earth are big shoes to fill, literally and figuratively of course. We know that Heaven is lucky to have acquired a new carpenter. We love you forever and always.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, July 18th 2024 at 1:00 PM at Sardis Fellowship Baptist located at 45187 Wells Road, Chilliwack B.C. Refreshments to follow.
