March 19, 1946 – May 18, 2025
With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of Francis (Frank) Donald Hawkins, who passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in Hope, British Columbia, at the age of 79.
Frank was born on March 19, 1946, in Flin Flon, Manitoba. His early years took him from Pipestone to Winnipeg, and in 1964, the family made their way west to Vancouver. He was the beloved son of the late Jack and Nellie (Chyzzy) Hawkins and was predeceased by his grandparents, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He attended Pembina Crest School in Winnipeg and graduated from Princess Margaret Secondary School in Surrey, BC. Frank built a long and steady career, working for over 30 years at Richmond Plywood, and later driving for Hope Taxi until his retirement in 2018.
Frank had a lifelong passion for sports. He gave back to his community as a baseball umpire and minor football referee, always eager to support and encourage youth in sport. A dedicated fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, he spent many happy hours supporting and working with the team at their stadium in Winnipeg, and later watching from home in BC.
Frank is lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Wineva (Mobbs), and his sons: Michael; Jesse and his wife, Tiffany; Wesley and his wife, Katelynn; and Tyrus and his wife, Courtney. He was a proud grandfather to Brody, Kaylee, Cache, and Evera, and a bonus grandfather to Ashton and Chasity, as well as a bonus great-grandfather to Leyla. He is also survived by his siblings, John and Mary Ellen.
Frank enjoyed driving, great conversation, cracking one-liners, and any day with a game on. He was generous, kind-hearted, and always made time for those he cared about.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Fraser Canyon Hospital for their care and compassion, with special gratitude to Elaine and Don Dixon for their support.
Friends and family are invited to a Winnipeg Blue Bombers watch party in celebration of Frank’s life on Saturday, July 26 at 3:00 p.m. at the Hope Eagles Hall (386 Fort St, Hope, BC).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in Frank’s memory.
As Frank would say, TTFN – ta-ta for now. Until we see you again.
