George McCall

George McCall, 86, of Chilliwack, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on the evening of September 9, 2026, at Chilliwack General Hospital. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, skilled craftsman, and warm-hearted man whose humor and kindness brought joy to those around him.

Born on March 8, 1940, in Kilmarnock, Scotland, George was the much-loved son of George and Elizabeth McCall. He grew up surrounded by family and cherished the close bond he shared with his two brothers, John and Peter. As a young man, George enjoyed riding his bicycle throughout Scotland with his brothers and friends, creating memories and stories that he would fondly share throughout his life.

In 1965 George married the love of his life, Nancy Baird. They met a few years earlier at the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock, Scotland where people would gather to enjoy dancing. After starting their journey in life together as man and wife they had 4 children; Shirley Ann, Brian, Peter, Carol-Ann, but tragically lost their *first child two days after birth. In 1974, George immigrated to Canada with his family, joining John and Peter, who had moved there earlier. He brought with him the skills he had developed as a stonemason in Scotland. Skilled masons were in high demand in Canada, and George quickly found work after arriving. He worked alongside his brother Peter and nephews George and Fred. He took great pride in his craft, and his dedication, skill, and workmanship remained important parts of his life.

Above all, George cherished his family. He was a loving husband to Nancy and a devoted father and grandfather who treasured time spent with those he loved. George enjoyed talking with people about his favorite sports teams, Glasgow Celtic and the Vancouver Canucks. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready with a story or joke, doing his best to make others laugh. His warmth, kindness, and laughter made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. During his retirement, he enjoyed growing vegetables in his greenhouse, playing darts, and having a cold beer.

George leaves behind his loving wife, Nancy McCall; his three children, Brian (partner Ursula), Peter (wife Marietta), and Carol-Ann (husband Trevor); his four grandchildren, Kile (husband Daren), Kelsey, Owen, and Cameron; his sisters in law, Jean and Evelyn; and many nieces and nephews spread throughout Canada and Scotland. He was preceded in death by his parents, both brothers, daughter Shirley Ann, and his nephew Allan.

George’s life was defined by love, family, hard work, and laughter. His stories, humor, and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
