Husband of Ursula Rita Green (nee Borkenhagen) for 59 years and father (Dad, Pops, Papa) of Birgit Corriveau (Neil), Gerald Green Jr., Peggy Roemer (Neil), and John Green (Viola). Dearly loved grandfather (Papa, Opa) of Kurt Corriveau (Trish), Britt Dupuis (Trevor), Johannes Schiess (Natalie), Daniel Green, and Niclas Green. Proud great-grandfather of Alexander, Olivia, Chloé, Gabriel, Olivier, and Jonas. Son of the late Arthur Edward Green and Mildred Edna Giles.
A true “Blue Noser”, he was born in Westphall, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. A proud former member (Veteran) of the 2nd Battalion Canadian Guards and 3 RCR (Royal Canadian Regiment) Gerry served his country from 1956 to 1971. During his military career, he served in Cyprus in a United Nations peacekeeping capacity. He was also a distinguished marksman, a regimental police officer and was stationed/posted to Soest Germany, C.F.B. Petawawa Ontario, and on tour at AMF Denmark.
After retirement from the military he continued to serve the public as a Casualty Care Paramedic Supervisor for the Ontario Provincial Emergency Care Health Service in Petawawa, Ontario. He later returned to Germany to serve in a civilian capacity with Department of National Defence. His role at Canadian Forces Base Lahr was as an MDO Driver with Base Transport , during which he had the privilege of providing personal transportation for distinguished Canadian government officials such as the Governor General, the Minister of National Defence, the Canadian Ambassador to NATO, and various high ranking Canadian military personnel.
He returned to Canada and moved to Chilliwack, British Columbia, where he worked for Base Transport in C.F.B. Chilliwack, and later was employed by Vischer Lumber. He was also a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion for many years.
Gerry loved and lived for his family and his country.
We will all miss him dearly…he was one of the “Good Ones”.
A Visitation for friends and family to celebrate and honour Gerry’s life, will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home 45865 Hocking Ave., Chilliwack, British Columbia V2P 1B5.
