Glen was a true character who will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
He developed a love for flying early in life and was a mainstay at the Chilliwack Airport. He owned several airplanes over the years and would happily take anyone “up for a circuit.” He had a daredevil spirit; he was well known for his mountain-climbing adventures from his youth and could often be heard on his Harley later in life. He was an outdoorsman at heart; he loved hunting, hiking, and likely didn’t mind that his years in the logging industry had him outside every day. He was a craftsman who would tinker for hours on end in the shop he built, creating useful (albeit questionably modified) tools and fixing anything that came his way. He loved to chat and would happily discuss the state of the world with anyone who would listen: family friends over for a visit, his pals at the airport coffee shop, even door-to-door evangelists would get a spirited conversation. He cherished his in-laws and family connections; many of his favorite memories came from the Miller family and the experiences they shared together, from visiting Scotland to see long-lost relatives to pool and poker nights and amazing holiday dinners.
Glen is survived by his children, Sherri (Max), Dan (Sylvia), and Michael (Linda); his sisters, Marie and Laverne; his sister-in-law, Vilda; and his grandkids, Olivia, Matthew, Tyler, and Eva.
Glen was predeceased by his wife, Barbara; his brother, Ron; his brothers-in-law, Mac and Dennis; and his parents, Pearl and Wilfred.
The family wishes to thank everyone who provided care and support for Glen in his final years. The staff at Goldheart were instrumental in allowing him to remain in his beloved home (with his cherished dog, Rylie, at his side) for as long as possible. They also helped him keep up his weekly airport coffee shop visits; it was his favorite day of the week. In his final months, the staff and volunteers at Langley Lodge ensured he was comfortable. He always looked forward to Rachel’s visits and the opportunity to get outside to soak in the sunshine and fresh air.
His life will be celebrated at Henderson’s (45901 Victoria Ave, Chilliwack) on Saturday, Oct 24 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association.
