“Well done, good and faithful servant…” – Matthew 25:23
With deep sorrow but steadfast hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, we announce that Hendrik (Henry) Jansen was called home to be with his Savior on September 19, 2025, at the age of 75. He passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife Jenny by his side.
Henry was born on March 24, 1950, in Wageningen, NL, and came to Canada on his 3rd birthday. He became a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and servant of Christ. His life was marked by quiet diligence, deep faith, and a heart for both his family and his community. He sought not recognition, but to walk humbly with his God and serve faithfully wherever the Lord placed him.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jenny, and his six children:
Ken (Nindy), Heather (Tom Beeke), Wendy (Mark Hamstra), Tom (Alice), Jenita (Erik Devisser), and Matt (Meagan).
He was a dearly loved Opa to 23 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who were a source of great joy to him.
Henry is also survived by his siblings:
Eva (Henk Klop), Casey (Phyllis, Betty), Tanny (Bill Vermeer), Brian (Darlyne), Pauline (Henk Visscher), Betty (John Keefer), John (Wilma), and Hannah (Bert Brunia).
He was pre-deceased by his father, Jan (June 23, 1981) and his mother, Tannetje (June 11, 1988).
Professionally, Henry exemplified integrity and perseverance. He received his diploma in Financial Management from BCIT and went on to earn his CGA designation in 1987. Following that, he established Jansen & Jansen, a practice that later became Jansen Dewolde, where he served faithfully until his retirement. Before completing his accounting designation, he was also involved in Span Valley Construction for a number of years.
Henry gave generously of his time and talents to the broader community. He served on various boards including: Timothy Christian School Board, First Heritage Credit Union, BC Central Credit Union (which he also chaired for a time) and Canadian Central Credit Union.
His heart for the church was evident in his faithful service as both deacon and elder at Heritage Reformed Church, where he labored for the good of the congregation and the glory of God.
Though we mourn his loss, we rejoice in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection. Henry’s life was anchored in the promises of Scripture and the finished work of Christ. We find comfort knowing he now rests in the presence of his Lord—free from pain, and clothed in glory.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all who supported Henry in his final months: Abbotsford Cancer Clinic, Home Health & the Palliative Care Team, the compassionate overnight care team from Friends of Family, Dr. Smit and his staff, and the caring team at Save-on-Foods Pharmacy, who helped navigate many challenges with grace and kindness.
A service of thanksgiving to God for Henry’s life will be held at First Ave Church on Thursday, Sept 25 at 10am, where we will gather to remember God’s faithfulness and celebrate the eternal hope we share in Christ. For those that cannot attend, please join us remotely using one of these links:
