We said our heartfelt good-byes to a loving husband, father, son, brother, papa, uncle and friend. Jack faced his health challenges with grace and dignity, and battled relentlessly throughout his journey. His positive attitude and bright smile were inspirational for his family and friends.
Jack was born in Gleichen, Alberta to Helen and Melvin Short. His family moved to Chilliwack, B.C. when he was three. Jack married the love of his life Audrey Nuyts in 1963 and together they raised three amazing children. He was well -known in the community as the “Jack” of all trades at Logan’s Hardware Store from 1959-2003, where he took great pride in pleasing his customers and going above and beyond the call of duty.
Jack was proud to be a volunteer firefighter for 30 years, and was active in the Kinsmen Club of Chilliwack, the Vedder River clean up and the Cultus Lake O.A.P.’s. He loved to keep busy by biking, camping, curling, dancing, fishing, golfing, hiking, skiing and playing bridge. Jack and Audrey enjoyed trips to Australia, Italy, France, Mexico, Palm Springs, and Tahoe. One of his favourite joys was family time and entertaining friends at Cultus Lake while camping at Sunnyside Campground and eventually buying a home and retiring at the lake.
Most importantly, Jack was a loving and fun husband, father and papa. He always led by example and taught his family to be active, caring, hardworking, helpful, humble and kind.
Jack is survived by Audrey, his wife of 63 years, his children Angela, Alan (Rose) and Kim, and his eight grandchildren, as well as his sister Donna Logan. He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters Marie and Mona, his brothers-in-law Tom, Vern, Verne, and Terry, as well as his sons-in-law John and Gaston.
Our family wishes to send a special thank you to the dedicated and thoughtful caregivers at Eden and Valley Haven Care homes.
Jack’s legacy will live on through his family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to the Funeral Mass for Jack at St. Mary’s Church on Saturday, September 5th at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Jack’s memory.
