

John Lakusta was relieved of his earthly strife and has gone to be with the Lord and his truly beloved wife in Heaven, Hilda. On 4 June 2026, John passed away in his sleep at the age of 93. John leaves behind a better world because of his presence and many grandchildren and great grandchildren who are left characterized by his good conduct, industry, and efficiency. John was predeceased by his wife and three children who all knew him as loving, pious, and generous.
Born in 1932 in Harry Hill, Alberta from Ukrainian parents, he was one of thirteen children. John moved to B.C. in his early teens and soon after worked for B.C. Forest, Coast Line as an award-winning faller. He married in 1953 and quickly became interested in prison work. His sincere interest led to a successful career and was awarded the Corrections Exemplary Service Medal in 1986. John was a family man with a spontaneous sense of humour. Inside this rugged, bold man was a tender-hearted, loving husband and father. John could be called upon to do just about anything to help. He spent his retirement remaining active outside in his garden and in his workshop.
A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday, 19 June 2026 at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home followed by a reception at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chilliwack after the burial service.
