Ken George Brandon of Chilliwack, passed away on December 28th, 2023 after a battle with dementia. Ken, 76, was born in Vancouver to Lloyd & Elsie Brandon with his three younger sisters pre-deceased by Barbera, Beth, & Robin.
Ken leaves behind his wife, or as he called her many a time, “His favorite girl”, Vera. He also leaves behind his son Chet, his daughter Tracy, and 6 grandchildren: Dexter, Pierce, Lexi & Zak, Mila & Kendra. He has often been referred to as one of those guys no one can say anything bad about.
Ken met his wife at a bus stop in Burnaby where he first attempted to try and give her a ride, but had no success. After attempting to visit his cousin Frank who had slept in, Ken made his way home again driving by the bus stop once more, again asking to give the young lady a ride. This time he won her over with kind eyes and gentlemanly smile. Nine short months later they were married and recently celebrated their 52nd anniversary.
Ken is survived by his loving wife Vera, who would sneak up behind him and tickle him into submission more times than one could recall. He would never leave for work in the morning without his goodbye kiss, even though they worked together at the family owed business, Al’s Supply House. Together they traveled the world; Ken placed a pin on a world map every time they got home from a new destination, and the map was filled. But still his favorite get away was Tulameen. Here he built his own cabin at the age of 21, and to this day his family loves the getaway and many consider this their happy place.
He hated watching TV and could never sit still, something he passed on to his son, Chet. The two would often wake up early on weekends and instead of watching TV in the morning, they would sit around the kitchen table over endless cups of coffee and just chat about everything and anything for hours on end. They never ran out of things to talk about. Ken’s homebrew beer that he perfected over the decades became a focal point for the guys every time there was a house gathering, especially the legendary annual Boxing Day party on Chilliwack Mountain. The ladies upstairs chatting, while the men tried sipping from sometimes ten different beers, often mixing for incredible flavors.
His passion was to keep busy and loved working in his garage at home. From woodworking, restoring cars, to just puttering, he was always up to something. But what melted him the most was his last two granddaughters, Mila & Kendra. An old-fashioned guy who didn’t show much for hugs and kisses, and who at first, he would only blow kisses to, but over time found he was tackled with hugs and kisses every night and smiled every time from ear to ear. As his son watching his father melt away with love, was one of the greatest visions to observe, it was nothing short of heartwarming.
Celebration of life will be held in late spring or early summer. In lieu of flowers we request we ask you send donations to the Alzheimer’s of Canada or pay it forward the next time you’re in the coffee line.
