During the war, mom's family moved to Prince Rupert, where her dad built ships for the navy. When they later moved to Chilliwack, near the site of the future airport, she developed an interest in flying. In 1947, at the age of 18, she became the 21st person to obtain a pilot's license from the Chilliwack Flying Club. There she met Gilbert, and they married in June, 1950. She was a devoted wife and mother who raised two children while working as a bookkeeper. She had a gift for numbers and a near photographic memory. Mom loved family barbecues, picnics, and camping, and made so many delicious dinners and baked treats, especially at Christmas.
During retirement, 'Lil and Gil' loved to travel. Mom was also an avid crafter, whether quilting, knitting, or making paper tole. She was even a quick study with computers late in life. Busy as she was, she always had time to volunteer at the Salvation Army kitchen. Most of all, throughout her life she was incredibly devoted to her family, and she will be missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
