Margaret Janet (Jan) Munro passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on January 8th 2022, after a brief stay at Cascade Hospice in Chilliwack, British Columbia. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday.
Janet was born on November 21, 1931 in Birmingham, England. She immigrated to Canada in 1959, residing in Vancouver until 1965 when she moved to Prince George to continue her career as a medical secretary. There, she met her husband Jim and they married in 1967. In 1974 they moved to the Lower Mainland of BC, finally settling in Sardis in 1982. An avid reader, knitter and gardener, she loved engaging in lively conversation with friends of all ages, especially children, and had a fantastic sense of humor. As she grew older, her iPad became her connection to the outside world. Many will miss her (sometimes inadvertent) humorous comments and contributions to Facebook. Though she lived in Canada for more than 60 years, she maintained a strong connection to England. Her British ancestry was a source of pride for her, and she greatly enjoyed her relationships with her relatives and friends ‘back home.’
She is lovingly remembered by her 3 children; Laird (Diana) Munro of Calgary and their 4 children (Matthew, Mary-Kate, Nicole and Daniel), Michael McAllister of Chilliwack, BC, and his children (Kiera and Aiden), and Crystal Sullivan of Longview, Washington (USA) and her fiancé Rick Haight. Janet was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, James (Jim) Allan Munro (December, 1993), as well as her parents and brothers, Frederick, Phoebe, Kenneth and Robert, all of Birmingham, England.
Services will be held at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home in Chilliwack, BC, with a viewing at 11:00 AM and a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, after which she will be laid to rest at Vedder View Gardens Cemetery, next to Jim, on Monday, January 17th.
Her whole family thanks the team of doctors, nurses and health care professionals at Fraser Valley Health, her private care workers and her closest friends, whose efforts allowed her to stay in her home until the very end, as well as everyone at Cascade Hospice.
