Margaret Jean Jensen was born December 12, 1949 in Rossland BC. She was the second child and first daughter of Peter Jarl Jensen & Ernestine Hope Price. She was the eldest sister and Matriarch to 11 siblings, Robert the Eldest brother, and her younger siblings: Peter, Christine, Bill, Laurie, Karen, Kathy, Sally, Susie, Shari and David. Margie had a HUGE roll to fill and she did it with kindness and cheerfulness.
Margaret, also known as, Marg, Margie, Marge & occasionally Mag, which she hated. She was a mother, sister, friend, and the most reliable person I knew.
Margie was adorable with her beautiful big eyes and that wide-eyed wonder look. She was not so innocent though and took part in many mischievous acts. Even if they were not her ideas, she always took responsibility and more than her share of the blame, not because she was guilty but because she was a faithful and loyal friend and sister.
Margie loved to drive, she learned on the farm with the tractor. She was never good with the clutch and usually managed to drive the tractor UP the fence post! She loved road trips, and would enthusiastically load her family into the car for a drive. She would convince Mervyn to drive for hours to brother Pete’s for breakfast but because she was NOT a morning person, he never managed to get breakfast; it was more like a late lunch!
Even though her parents moved A LOT, as a teenager she was very good in school and had many friends. She was easy to like and never judgemental as she made you feel special just the way you were.
With her family, she always stayed in touch and if she was in your neighbourhood she always stopped in for a hug and a hello. Her smile would brighten your day and the world would be a better place for a while. For her younger siblings Margaret was more than the best big sister, she was a second mom too, often helping or giving birthday parties & taking care of us when mom & dad went away. Some of us spent many summers with her & her children and we have fond memories of just being with her. Marg’s home has always been a place where one is welcomed, for 1/2 hour, a day, or a weekend. She was always happy to see you for whatever length of time you had.
Margie had excellent penmanship and is a very creative writer. One of the things she loved to do was write poetry. She has written many poems and stories that her family will cherish forever. She was an excellent seamstress and made or altered most of her clothing growing up and made outfits for her girls all through their childhood. She also made a beautiful quilt for our mom on her 70th birthday.
Margie grew up poor but even so she was not selfish with her money or her time, she was always there for you with a helping hand or a listening ear. She loved the slot machines and had her favourite machine that she could play all night if Mervyn would let her! She would think of the riches she could have and the family she could help and that would keep a smile on her face and her hand on the lever!
Margie’s biggest love was for her husband Mervyn and her four beautiful daughters, Shari, Debbie, Kim and Melissa and her grandchildren; Neil, Hannah and Hailey. Her four daughters were her pride and joy, she loved them fiercely with all her heart and was very proud of who they have become. The loss of Shari in 1987 was devastating but she managed to endure this grief with the help of her husband and daughters.
Her daughters and her grandchildren stayed in constant contact even when they moved away from home and they and Mervyn spent the last 7 weeks diligently by her side in the hospital giving her comfort and joy. Her children are wonderful people and will be a great strength and companionship to Mervyn during this trying time.
Even during her recent illness, Marg maintained her cheeky humour, telling the doctors if they needed to operate to do a few nips & tuck’s in various places. She always had a smile for the family when they came to visit her and wanted desperately to come home to be with them.
Even though we know that Marg is in a better place now, we shed tears, not for her, but for our loss.
I thought of you with love today but that is nothing new
I thought about you yesterday and days before that too,
I think of you in silence I often speak your name
All I have are memories and your picture in a frame
Your memory is my keepsake with which I’ll never part
God has you in His keeping I have you in my heart.
We love you Margaret Jean Croft McIvor and will miss you dearly.
God Bless.
