Paul Sexton

Paul Sexton, 71, passed away on the morning of June 2, 2026, after a year and a half long battle with cancer. Paul is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy, and children, Erin and Jeff (Amy). He moved on peacefully, surrounded by love.

Born to John & Lois Sexton in Vancouver, BC on June 6, 1954, Paul was predeceased by both parents and sister Linda (Bob).

Paul was well-loved by his extended family, including brother Jon (Marcia), sisters Ellen (Chris), Colleen, Star (Kelly), many cousins, nephews, nieces, and close friends.

A resident of Chilliwack since 1980, Paul was a lifelong educator, teaching in the Agassiz school district for over 30 years.

Martial arts was a cornerstone of Paul's life. Sensei Paul trained and taught in numerous disciplines including earning his 7th Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate. He was the chief instructor of the Abbotsford Karate Club – Sekukan and was heavily involved in Gima Ha, Karate BC, Karate Canada, and as a national Karate official and referee.

Paul made lifelong friends through his professional and athletic endeavors. He was recognized and respected by all for his dedication, integrity, and humility.

Paul had many interests and hobbies throughout his life. He embraced any challenge he encountered with curiosity which often turned into a new skill. To name a few, Paul enjoyed playing his guitar, boating, camping, and working with his hands; whether it be wood, metal working or just fixing something broken around the house. He embraced his spiritual side through his Reiki practice, connection with nature, and philosophical reading.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the care team of the Leukemia & BMT ward at Vancouver General Hospital who supported Paul’s treatment over the last year as well as the care team at Chilliwack General Hospital who supported Paul in his final days.

While there will be no public memorial service, Paul's memory will be celebrated at gatherings of family, friends and community members. Those wanting to honor Paul are invited to share favorite memories below, to organize gatherings, and to consider donating to a cause of their choice.
