Philip Anthony Taylor

Phil is predeceased by his wife Jill, and brother John. He leaves behind his son Dan (Deirdre, Liam and Aidan); daughter Sherra (Jay); brother in law Bob; 4 nieces (Janice, Natasha, Megan, Lindsay) and their families.

Phil was born in Sarnia Ontario to Bill and Phyllis Taylor. He spent much of his youth traversing the globe as his father was a petroleum engineer, his mother a physiotherapist, both in high demand in the 1940s. They lived in places such as Haifa, Palestine, Marseille, Paris, London and Edinburgh before landing back in Canada in Edmonton and finally settling in North Vancouver. During his high school years he was quite the athlete, skiing, swimming, boxing, horse back riding along with playing hockey, rugby and baseball among other sports.

He continued on to study at UBC, and during his final year met Jill, his wife of over 54 years. They married not long after on September 6, 1969. Together they raised their two children, son Dan born in 1974, and daughter Sherra, born in 1976 in Prince George.

Phil continued to study and learn, improving his skills and completing a CGA Designation. He was always seeking new courses, certifications, upgrades and designations. His passion for learning brought him to new classes right through to this year. He was a student of history and culture, consuming books constantly.

Phil was very diligent with his communication and was often writing letters and speaking with those he loved on a regular basis. He always looked forward to his weekly Sunday phone call with his daughter Sherra. Phil was part of Rotary clubs in communities he was a part of for decades, including taking his turn as president. His involvement in the betterment of his immediate community and the world at large was a point of duty and honour, and he was an active participant in numerous committees, programs, events and initiatives.

In Phil’s recent years, he had many friends and was active in carpet bowling, chair yoga, community classes, cooking classes, along with attending events with the streams foundation. He was also an amateur gardener, and had a green thumb, most of the time. He was often attending theatre productions, sporting events and going to see a wide assortment of movies.

Phil also spent much time with his grandsons Liam and Aidan of Langley. He would spend as much time as the busy family schedules would allow, often meeting for meals, walks or other occasions. And steady by his side was his beloved companion, Minky.

One habit Phil had developed and did his best to follow was when asked to attend an event or gathering, meet someone for a meal or participate in an activity, he would do his best to say yes. Phil wished to make the most of his time, and get out to do as much as he could. We will treasure all the times he said yes. Travelling to spend time with his beloved daughter in Craven, being part of a meal instead of staying home, going out to an activity to be a part of his community. He did his best to say yes.

We would like to thank Dr Kroeker, Dr Saulter, and the staff at the Young Clinic; Dr Deluce and the staff at BC Cancer; David, Pam and the staff at Garrison Pharmacy and, of course the fine staff and volunteers of the Chilliwack General Hospital that assisted in Phil’s final journey.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 14 2026 at 1:30PM at Herderson’s funeral home, 45901 Victoria Ave, Chilliwack
