Born in Bassano, Alberta, on May 17, 1945, Richard was the youngest of five children to David and Helen Kasdorf. He is survived by his sister Helen and his brother Dave, and was predeceased by his brothers Henry and Jerry.
Rick spent more than three decades working with the Royal Bank of Canada, where he helped guide the organization through the early era of computing. He had a natural interest in technology and played a key role in the development of computer systems at the bank. His passion for problem-solving inspired his sons to follow in his footsteps with their own love of computers and technology.
Rick was a devoted father to his two sons, Jeremy and Ryan, and a proud grandfather to Natalie and Jake. He is also fondly remembered by the mother of his children, Linda LaRochelle, with whom he shared many meaningful years and remained friends with until his passing.
He was known for his sharp wit, warm heart, and a sense of humor that could light up any room. He had a gift for bringing out the best in those around him. Rick shared a love of science fiction, cooking, fishing, and sports - especially cheering on his Seattle Seahawks through thick and thin.
He divided his time between Chilliwack and Mazatlán, Mexico, creating lasting friendships and enjoying the peace of the ocean. In later years, Rick lived with his family, becoming a fixture in his children's and grandchildren’s lives and creating cherished memories that will live on for generations.
In accordance with Rick’s wishes, private memorial gatherings will take place in locations that held special meaning in his life. These will be attended by close family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s memory to BC Children’s Hospital. https://secure.bcchf.ca/Mighty/donate.cfm?Event=SmallisMighty
