Omgoodness....we'd be having a good party to celebrate a wonderful woman.  Always miss you Aunty Rita.  I get up every morning and look at your picture with your Lilac tree.  Guess what?  I've now got my own lilac tree.  I've named it Aunty Rita.  You'll always be with me.

Sister,it's a birthdate that i will remember always.It seemed that when it was April 17th it was really Springtime. What a loss to lose  my family.But I can still find in my memory bank all the great times and laughs.So while I have that ,I have plenty. Forever,your sister

As my pen touches paper to write my words down, I am yet reminded again how lucky in life one can be to have experienced what many people “only dream off”. My Mom Rita.  Today I pause and reflect what has happened over the years and it actually makes me laugh out loud now how Grandma Carson so willingly gave me Mom's phone number back then for us to connect. The rest is history.
Mom and I shared a different relationship as we couldn't go back in time. However, this new game changer was even better as we established a close relationship always learning & sharing lots of tidbits with lots of laughs over the years. Many times, I recall holding our sides because the laughter was uncontrollable and /or we might pee our pants. We solved so many of the world's problems and people's relationships; I used to consult with my Dr. Rita if I needed an opinion on something. Aaahhh…. We had it all covered! Spending time with each other was always exciting and non predictable, none the less, memorable. I always came away feeling blessed for such a great family.
One of my memories was Mom flying down to NB after I had returned from Nova Scotia from just having had surgery.  My mission was to rest and relax and Mom was now in charge donning her nursing cap. Not only did Mom get introduced to a Maritime warm welcome, she became known as “Mom” to many of our friends and not by her name Rita. Everyone loved her and Mom fit in quickly. We had a couple of jam sessions held in our basement (we had a big house then) Mom loved the east coast music. Gary hooked up the dog sled one day and Mom went for her first ride in a sled.  Should have seen her face.  Priceless.  I was so proud of her. Mom escorted me back to NS for a follow-up visit weeks later. The Halifax nurses thought she was my older sister. Mom beamed with the compliments. When it was time for mom to leave the Maritimes, it wasn't without a song or two the night before and a promise to return to this part of the country for a visit. 

However, that was not to be.  Jobs were scarce and we needed to move. It was imperative that we find work. We moved and settled into the Edmonton area where Mom and/or Ron became frequent visitors at least once a year. We always planned on some project to do or to accomplish something well in advance while here visiting. Ron would take off on his own mission to Saskatchewan, leaving Mom and I to do our thing! The year we painted my antique shed door and transformed it into a work of art.  My neighbors reveled in wonder and joined us for drinks. With Uncle Gordie and Auntie Merv in attendance, karaoke was introduced to my household and friends. We had a Ball. This was to become our new Family tradition.
I now reflect back over the years of us all exchanging new songs, and upgrading our Karaoke machines. Of course, they all improved our voices! Going down for visits always fuelled a musical night and on occasion, we even brought a friend along with us that had great vocals as well. 
I recall Mom recording over my newly recorded Sound of Music disc so that “Her Gary" wouldn't have to endure that music on the drive home…   Hmmmm…..I wonder to myself, what was wrong with listening to the “hills are alive?”  Mom always had a soft spot for Gary and would team up with him rendering me useless in any argument or debate.  I couldn't win but she always did it with a smile on her face.  Mom, you made me laugh trying to make me look incompetent! 
I would always come down to Hope for a visit with my own garden gloves ready to dig into the gardens. I know in the beginning I learned how to tread lightly between the sisters, as apparently Mom, you might have pruned too much against Aunties wishes. I was reminded by you that Aunties got eyes watching us out the window!!! I would laugh so hard, to me that was soooo funny. For Me, I didn't care, I just came along to weed and called it therapy.

Mom had so many talents that we both shared like sewing up something, painting, or transforming some space into something useful. We both had a gift to visualize the results without having it to materialize. We exchanged some awesome recipes and shared some great meals. Life was good.  
I know life isn't a guarantee, however, once in awhile some of us get lucky enough to share in someone's life for a period, never more, never less. And we are thankful.
This being said ,I thank you Mom for some of the funniest family times a daughter could ever ask for, for the confidence I had been lacking years ago of where I belonged and the love that grew between us. I am now armed with a deluge of family history and as time goes on, I find myself looking in the mirror at you. Smile!
In closing...
PS: Mom, if the park bench needs a touch up of paint in a few years, what color of paint should we paint it????

It was a year since you left.
The year has slipped by so quickly,that it only seems like yesterday.
Your Family gathered yesterday at your bench and of course Larry the Piper was there.He started playing Amazing Grace and my heart just hurt.
I remember our Mother and the love  for the Scottish pipes.

I can't believe a year has gone by....one year ago tonight I held your hand for the last time and looked into your eyes.  I know you loved me and I know you knew how much I loved you.  We didn't need to say the words. You are so missed aunty.

I met Rita thru Ancestry and we were researching the Carson's in SK. Shared as much info as we had. My husband's grandmother was Pearl Carson from Yorkton - sister to Adam Mervin Carson. Our condolences to Ron and to all of Rita's family.  Rita was a very lovely & courageous woman and we will remember her in that manner.  It saddens us that we didn't get to spend more time getting to know each more.  Rest in peach, Rita.
