Sylvia was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan soon after her parents, Stan and Francis Jennings, and sister, Renee, made the huge trek from Melton Mowbray, England.
With her and new brother, Stan, they then moved to Kamloops, British Columbia. She worked at the drugstore, a ladies clothing store and, and became the 1st telegraph deliverer. She met Vic Janicki and they married (Oct 1947) and settled in Chilliwack where they raised their family. Vic was active with the Foresters Hall, curling, bingo, Cultus Lake Park Board, real estate and many community events. So, by extension, Sylvia was too.
Sylvia loved being a wife, mum, foster mum, grandma and, great grandma (GG). She spent time writing stories for her grandchildren, oil painting at Cultus Lake Hall, being part of family dinners, and tending to her house and home. She was our eternal encourager and loving mum/gramma/GG.
She is survived by sister Carol Carusi (Mario); children, Terry (Stan), Ken (Nancy), David, Joyce (Cam), Peggy (Rick); and, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; grandchildren, Kim, Kelli Ann, Jamie, Shellie, Dan, Cory, Alex, Marc, Chantel, and Anthony; and, many great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by husband, Vic Janicki (1998), daughter-in-law, Stella Janicki (2016) and, son, Doug Janicki (2020).
The Family would like to send a special thank you to all the workers at the Cascade Long Term Care for their care, attention, and dedication to our mother/grandmother. We fully appreciate the many efforts to keep a safe home during a pandemic.
Forever in our hearts and always missed.
The family will be gathering at a later date to bury her ashes next to her husband in Chilliwack Cemeteries. In lieu of flowers and memory of her love of animals, please make a donation in her name to BC SPCA.
