Verda Rosetta (Barnard)

Verda Rosetta Chadburn (Barnard) age 91, passed away peacefully January 25, 2019 at her home
surrounded by family.
Verda was born in Chilliwack, B.C. on March 11,1927, the daughter of Charles and Mina Barnard (Johnston). She graduated from Chilliwack High School in 1944, and went on to attend St. Paul’s School of Nursing. Her yearbook described her as “A quiet girl, sincere and kind, with a most intelligent mind”. With her RN. certification Verda moved to Summerland, B.C. to begin her career, where she met and married Godfrey Chadburn. A busy family life began centered around their orchard home.
Verda’s garden was a source of pride. Verda was a selflessly devoted wife and mother. She was steadfast when her family faced adverse circumstances and were required to find new opportunities.
In 1961, Chilliwack became home , their family grew and Verda quickly became active in her community. She was always at the ready to help others in her quiet unassuming way. Verda was a dedicated volunteer in the Chilliwack United Church Mary Macs, UCW Group and as a CGIT Leader. Throughout the years Verda contentedly filled her quiet times with an unquenchable thirst for books, word puzzles and jigsaws.
Predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years Godfrey, brothers Raymond and Leslie. She will forever be in the hearts of her children Joyce Chiran (Vasile), Beverly Freer, Lois Chadburn (Derek), son Brian Chadburn (Janet), grandchildren , Kate andMaxine Chadburn , Ben and Adam Prokopetz and great granddaughter Josie. She also leaves behind several well-loved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Carla Willoughby for lighting up Mom’s days with her companionship and kindness. Dr. Ken Hirst for his many years of care, the staff at Netcare, Lara and Lisa of FH Home Care and to all at the Lynnwood whowatched over her when that was her home.
A Celebration of Life will be held February 19th at 11:00 am at the Chilliwack United Church 45835 Spadina Ave,Chilliwack.
