Violet May Craig

5 May, 1938 – 22 December, 2019
IN THE CARE OF

Henderson's Funeral Homes & Crematorium

Violet May Craig passed away on 22nd December 2019 in her home in Chilliwack at 81 years young. Born in Walker, Newcastle Upon-Tyne, England on May 5th, 1938.

Vi is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Charlie, son David Craig and three daughters Kathleen (Rob) Bouchard, Donna Craig and Helen (Kees) van Bodegom. She was very proud to tell all that would listen of her nine (9) grandchildren and her six great grandchildren. Andrea Craig (Charlie), Victoria Bouchard (Kaitlyn and Lucas), Robert (Tomoyo) Bouchard (Kaito and Yukito), Ryan (Angela) Bouchard, Marissa, (Dezmen) Tibbets (Benson), Tegan Craig-Kembel, Jennifer aka Jen Jen Howard and Amber Howard broth Michael (Rose) White and many nieces and nephews in England. She was predeceased by her parents Michael and Lizzie Ann White, grandson Justin, mother-in-law Lily Craig, brother-in-laws Stevie Craig and Kenneth Purvis and sister-in-laws Lily Purvis and Valerie Craig.

Immigrating to Canada with her husband Charlie, left England to set up home in Canada for the family, and she travelled shortly after with four children. She opened her home to foster babies, trying to give them a better start to life. Showing all her heart of gold.

While Vi worked many jobs to help with the expenses of raising four children, the last job she held was with the Surrey Memorial Hospital, as a housekeeper, where she befriended many people, leaving her position only due to her health. Vi and Charlie moved to Yarrow in 2001, where they were able to assist in the maintaining of a hobby farm and three of the grand daughters, leaving the girls with many memories. She loved to crochet and won many first place ribbons at the PNE, Calgary Stampede and local fairs. She is well known for putting her bet on and watching her favorite British dramas and sitcoms, the most favorite, of course, was Coronation Street.

She is dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Anyone who worked with Vi at Surrey Hospital is encouraged to call Charlie at 604-824-0027. There will be a celebration of Life at a later date, please check Henderson’s Funeral Home website for up to date information. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.
