With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Wilfred Garner Misener (Garn) on December 19, 2025 in Chilliwack Hospital, BC, at the age of 85.
Garn is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia (Pat) who he adored and who was by his side when he passed. He is also survived by his two sons, Doug (Tanya) & Brian (Cyndi) & his grandchildren – Anthony, Abigail & Luke – who brought him great joy and pride throughout his life.
Garn was fortunate to call several places home over the years. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario to his loving parents, Wilfred Thurston & Eveline Misener. He spent his childhood & teen years there along with his older brother, Bill and joined The Air Force as a navigator in his later teen years. He also joined the Free Masons like his father, and notably began a long career with Canada Trust. It was on the job that he met Pat who was also working in the Trust Department. To say he was smitten with her would be an understatement.
They married on October 17, 1964 & gave birth to their first son, Doug in Hamilton in 1969. They bought a small house in nearby Ancaster but soon after Garn was transferred to Sarnia where they gave birth to their second son, Brian.
Another work transfer brought Garn and his young family to Victoria, BC and ultimately to Vancouver, BC where Garn worked as Assistant Vice President for Canada Trust.
Garn loved the challenges of his career at Canada Trust and the many clients and people that he worked with there. Most of all, though, he loved his family and cherished the time that they spent together laughing, boating, swimming in their pool at their home in North Vancouver, watching hockey and football games and travelling – whether across Canada, to Disneyland, Hawaii, and Mexico or to Fiji and Rarotonga.
Later, with their sons grown, Garn & Pat took advantage of “Freedom 55”, retired early, and lived out their dream of retiring to a smaller community and building a home there. The place they chose was Harrison Hot Springs which had all the charm of a small, close-knit community but was still just a 90 minute drive away from their children in Vancouver, BC.
In Harrison, Garn enjoyed spending time with good friends, golfing, playing cards and cribbage, gardening, trying new restaurants and occasionally, even dancing at The Copper Room. He and Pat also joined the All Saints Anglican Church in Agassiz and found not just a place of worship, but a welcoming spiritual community and several long-time friends.
At this time in their lives, they also took the opportunity to enjoy more travel – cruising in Europe and “snowbirding” to Palm Springs for several years.
Garn had a knack for making people feel welcome. He made friends easily and was quick to help those who needed it. Family meant a lot to him and some of his happiest times were when he could share a laugh & his home with Pat, his sons & daughters-in-law, his grandchildren and his beloved Boston Terriers – Bowsie, Buttons, & Linus I & II. We love him dearly. He will be missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at All Saints Anglican Church in Agassiz on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 2:00 pm.
