Wilma, Mum, Grandma, and Gigi, was born in 1938 in Kilmarnock, Scotland. She emigrated to Chilliwack, Canada in 1974 with her first husband, Alex (deceased 2019) and her three children Martin, Fiona and Jonathan. A year after landing in Canada, her fourth child Alexis arrived.
Wilma worked at Chilliwack hospital and later became a dedicated volunteer helping the Candy Stripers and then the Ladies Auxiliary for 40 years.
In 1991 she married Gus Hardy and quickly became grandma and Gigi to an extended family. Wilma and Gus shared a passion for traveling, golf and gardening. When Gus passed in 2021, Wilma’s priority became her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Trips to Prince George, to visit Marianne and Candace's family and back to Chilliwack became commonplace. She never forgot to sing to her grandchildren on their birthdays and took great delight teaching each new arrival the words to “The Wheels on the Bus.”
Wilma was a founding member of the Sons of Scotland and was nationally known by family and friends for her one-of-a-kind homemade shortbread. Orders began arriving as early as September for Christmas.
Wilma is survived by her son Martin (Jacquie), daughter Fiona, son Jonathan (Rhonda), daughter Alexis (Michael), and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Wilma's life will be held at Henderson's funeral home tea room on June 27, 2026 @ 1:00pm
