Walter will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Afong; his children, Patsy, Joyce, Samuel, and Catherine; his grandchildren, Andy, Nathan, Aden, Emma, Lauren, and Rachel; and Alfie, the family dog. He is also survived by his siblings, Lesley, Linda, James, Lucy, and Shirley.
Walter was predeceased by his parents, Lily and Donald, and his sister, Iris.
Walter was a man of many talents, unlimited generosity, and an adventurous spirit. He approached life with curiosity, determination, and a deep appreciation for the people he met along the way.
A skilled Marine Engine Fitter who spent part of his career working offshore, Walter took pride in his work and was known for his ability to build, repair, and create just about anything. If something needed fixing, Walter could usually find a way. His resourcefulness, craftsmanship, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on family, friends, and neighbours alike.
Walter had a passion for travel and adventure. He loved exploring new places, experiencing different cultures, meeting people from all walks of life, and discovering local foods wherever his travels took him. He believed some of life's best moments were found around a table, sharing a meal and good conversation.
Food was Walter's language of love. He found joy in feeding others and never hesitated to welcome family, friends, or even strangers to join him for a meal. Many people who first met Walter as strangers quickly became lifelong friends. His generosity knew no boundaries, and his home and heart were always open to others.
Family was at the center of Walter's life. He was a proud father of four children, grandfather to six grandchildren and one beloved grand-dog. He cherished time spent with his extended family and treasured gatherings filled with laughter, stories, and good food.
Fiercely independent and strong-willed, Walter taught those around him the importance of hard work, kindness, and generosity. His example showed that true wealth is measured not by what we keep, but by what we give.
Walter also had a special affection for dogs (beloved Alfie), whose companionship brought him great happiness throughout his life.
He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his capable hands, his generous heart, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness and friendship. Though he is gone, his legacy lives on in the family he loved, the friends he made, and the values he instilled in all who knew him.
