Mr. Ernest (Sparky) Cecil Guthrie, Jr., age 76 of China Grove, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at NOVANT-Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury after a brief illness. Born July 16, 1946 in Rowan County, Sparky was the son of the late Ernest Cecil Guthrie, Sr. and Annie Lou Collins Guthrie. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Concord.
Sparky was a 1964 graduate of South Rowan High School and went on to attend Chowan Baptist College, The University of Maryland and The University of South Florida. He spent his working career in advertising sales. He was passionate and had a true gift for woodworking – making beautiful furniture. He was a great conversationalist and was totally outspoken, especially on matters in which he was passionate about, including local politics. Sparky was a great storyteller and he loved stories and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met which usually led to a story. He was a loving and devoted family man and loved listening to rock and roll music.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Georgianne “GiGi” Guthrie of the home and his son Ian and wife, Ashly of Charlotte. He also leaves behind his dear family friend, Charles Collins and wife, Sylvia and many, many friends who will miss not only him but his stories and his wit.
Visitation for Sparky will be on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 1:00pm at All Saints Episcopal Church, 525 Lake Concord Road, Concord, NC, officiated by Father James Bernacki. Committal Service will immediately follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.linn-honeycutt.com.
