

John William Allison was born May 10, 1923, in York County, SC, to Jessie Whitesides Allison and Leon McDill Allison, Sr. As a young child, John lived in Hickory Grove, SC, before moving to Mooresville, NC, in 1932. He graduated from Moorseville High School in 1940 and N.C. State University in 1950. He served in the Army/Air Force in WWII and the Korean War. He served in the Philippine Islands and received a honorable discharge.
John was preceded in death by his wife and best friend of 65 years, Margaret Sherrill Allison in 2008, his parents, and a brother, Dr. Leon McDill Allison Jr., of Due West, SC.
Survivors include a daughter, Lee Ann Allison Christy (Jim) of China Grove, a granddaughter, Allison Christy Egbert (Jack) of Concord, and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Eva Margaret Egbert. He is also survived by a nephew, Bob Allison (Bert) of Pickens, SC, and a niece, Marilyn Allison Simmons (David) of Peru. He is also survived by a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
John had two careers, having taught agriculture at China Grove High School and South Rowan High School. In 1965, he became personnel director at China Grove Cotton Mill and retired in 1985. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in China Grove for over 65 years and served on various committees and taught Sunday School. He was a faithful member of the Williams Sunday School Class. He was a member of the China Grove Rotary Club, having served as President.
John’s hobbies included gardening, golfing, and visiting friends. John can best be remembered for his love and dedication to the Lord, his family, and his friends. He took great pride in doing deeds to help others and enjoyed spending time with friends.

Funeral arrangments: Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church on 110 West Church Street, China Grove at 2 PM, Friday February 2, 2018. Visitation immediately following Memorial Service in church parlor, in Langford Hall. The burial will be private. Memorials may be made to John W. Allison Scholarship Fund and mailed to First United Methodist Church, 110 West Church Street, China Grove, NC 28023.
