John Wayne Stirewalt

Mr. John Wayne Stirewalt, 76 of China Grove, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2016 at his residence. Born on January 28, 1941 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Harry and Belle Beaver Stirewalt.

He was a graduate of Landis High School, where he was a star baseball player. He was a longtime member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church where he was a member of the church choir and was a Sunday School teacher. He was involved with coaching youth baseball and was a BSA Scoutmaster. He was a longtime member of Bostian Heights Volunteer Fire Department. Mr Stirewalt retired from Cannon Mills after many years of service.

He was a great Dad and loved his family very much.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Betty Hogan Stirewalt, sons Michael Stirewalt (Jeri), Mitchell Stirewalt (Micky), Richard Wright (Rhonda) and Douglas Stirewalt (Jennifer) and daughter Anne Miller (Bucky). Also surviving him is his brother Gary Stirewalt (Paula) and sister Martha Safrit (Reggie) as well as 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Saturday from 6:00 til 8:00 at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove with funeral on Sunday at 3:00 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church with Pastor Bob Young, minister. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Williams and the staff of Levine Cancer Center at Northeast Medical Center as well as the staff of Hospice of Cabarrus County, and Dr. Braun and staff of Ardsley Medical Group. and everyone who prayed for him.
