Kathy Story Himes

Born in Cabarrus County on July 26, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Guy Edward Schenck and Bonnie Lou Mason Schenck.

Kathy graduated from South Rowan High School – Class of 1975. She worked at West Rowan Middle School as a Teacher’s Assistant and bus driver. Kathy later worked at UNC-Charlotte in Transportation.

She was a member of Back Creek Presbyterian Church where she had worked with the youth. Her favorite place to be was at the beach, and spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 37 years, Timothy Peterson Himes; daughters, Amber Michelle Himes and Brittany Dawn Himes; one granddaughter, Luna Rae Crowther; brothers, Danny Schenck (Debbie), and Randal Schenck (Beth); mother-in-law, Phares Sechler; brothers-in-law, Bob Himes (Mary) and Michael Thomas and sister-in-law, Joy Burleson (Tony).

She is further survived by six nieces; four nephews; fifteen great-nephews and eight great-nieces; many “adopted” children and grandchildren whom she loved and her aunt Kathy Moore.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 26, 2025, from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM at Back Creek Presbyterian Church.

The funeral service will begin at 3:00 PM with Rev. Bill Thrailkill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
