

Mary Luzene Shuffler Goodwin passed from this life into the next on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis. She gave freely of herself to her family and everyone who knew her for 95 glorious years. She was born the 19th of June 1921 in China Grove, NC, as one of the six children of William Theodore Shuffler and Annie Luzene Stirewalt Shuffler. She was predeceased by all of her siblings; brothers Homer, Thomas, Walter, John B. (Doc), and sister Nora Eckard. She graduated from China Grove High School in 1939 and married William John Goodwin in November of 1940. Her husband passed away in 1993 after 53 years of marriage. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one daughter, Annie Ruth Harvey, grandson William Christopher Goodwin, daughter-in-law Carol Childress Goodwin, and son-in-law Russell Parker. She is survived by sons John Lawrence (special friend Beverly), David Lee (Betty), Paul Wayne (Kathy) and daughter Hazel Jane Parker. Mama was a source of strength and a constant inspiration to her children, her 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. We will all miss her so much. Mary was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ, and influenced many lives as a Sunday school teacher from the time she was a young adult until she was in her 80's. At the time of her death she was a member of Living Water Church of God in Kannapolis. The family would like to thank the friends that continued to visit when mama could no longer travel. Also, a special thanks to the staff of Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis for the care that they provided in the last year of her life.
The family will receive friends at the Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove on Saturday January the 14th, from 2:00 until 4:00pm, with a funeral service immediately following . The family will gather for the burial at 3:00 pm, Sunday January 15th at Westlawn Cemetery.
