Mrs. Ovella Carlton Turner, age 80, of Statesville, NC passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at East Georgia Regional Hospital in Statesboro, GA surrounded by her loving family. Born June 19, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Eddie Lee Carlton and Garnette Mary Smith Carlton. Her son, Randy Alexander, two brothers, Norman “Larry” Cartlon and Theodore “Buck” Carlton and her two sisters, Norma Lee Kimball and Glenda Carlton also preceded her in death.
Ovella attended China Grove High School and graduated from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. She retired after many years of service from Food Lion, where she worked in the corporate offices. Ovella was a member of Statesville First Church of the Nazerene. She began the church’s food ministry, which has been serving the community for over 25 years. She was also active in the ladies ministry, was the church decorator and served as church secretary. She lived a life of service, serving others to the best of her ability and with great dignity and compassion. Ovella loved her family dearly. Raising her four children, spending her time with them and treasuring her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest pleasures in life.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 28 years, Rev. Frank Turner of the home; daughters, Julie Fritts of Kannapolis, Jodi (Dorsia) Atkinson of Sylvania, GA and son, Rusty (Kristin) Alexander of Salisbury. She also leaves behind her brother, Phillip (Polly) Carlton, her grandchildren. Jinger (Kenny) Ferguson, Jared Anthony, Jestin Fritts, Christopher (Caitlin) Atkinson, Brian (Chandler) Atkinson, Danielle (Colby) Calhoun, Madison (Ricky) Blanscet, Matthew Alexander, Ryan Alexander and Austin Livengood along with 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside Service for Ovella will be Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 2:00pm at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove officiated by Rev. Dorsia Atkinson.
