

Evalena was born on May 8, 1920 in Rock Valley Iowa, to Conrad and Lena Van Zee, She married Moss Van Holland on December 27, 1938 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and they were married for over 70 years. They started out in Rock Valley, Iowa and had 3 Children-Arthur and Leona, who were born in Iowa, and Meridith “Chick”, who was born in California. After moving to California, Evalena and Moss lived in Bellflower for many years, and then moved to Chino, where they had lived for the past 40 years. They were members of the Reformed Church for over 70 years. Evalena enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and baking for family and friends. She donated her time sewing children’s clothing and making baby blankets for Santa’s Inc., a non-profit organization providing Christmas gifts to hundreds of families in Ontario, California. She also crocheted blankets and hats for the Veteran’s Hospital.
She is survived by her Son, Art Van Holland of Jerome, Idaho (Clara), and her Daughter, Leona Dahline of Chino, California and her Daughter, Meridith “Chick” Craig of Ontario, California. She has 10 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren, and 5 Great, Great Grandchildren and many Nieces & Nephews. Evalena was preceded in death by her husband Moss (Slim), her Parents, 7 siblings,and 2 son-in laws—Aurie Dahline and William Craig.
Evalena was 92 years old when she passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2013. She had been in assisted care at Inland Christian Home in Ontario, CA after she suffered a broken bone and then a stroke in late January of this year.
She was a strong, determined woman, who loved her Family and Friends, and she will be greatly missed.
