My heart is broken upon finding out about Gilbert. He was the first friend made when I started kindergarten at Ada S. Nelson Elementary School. We became acquainted when we both had to “sit on the bench” because we had gotten in trouble during recess. I knew Gilbert all the way through high school. I had to move away and as such lost touch with him and so many other kids I had grown up with. I had been trying to find him with the hope of reconnecting only to find his obituary. From the photos you have posted and the remarks given, it is evident that he hadn’t changed, had many friends, and continued to be a great person. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences for your loss. I am so sorry for you all.

I will always remember the camping trips I tagged along on,  fishing, having thanksgiving with you guys in the new camper … some of my best childhood memories.  Your white Chevy truck that was alway clean,  I still remember the car freshener scent … and many more memories.  Give grandma and grandpa a hug for me.  Until next time ❤️ Love you.

My fondest and first memory of Gilbert was in January of 1976. I was 13 years old and my older brother, Michael Ortiz was in the ICU at the General Hospital in LA after a motorcycle accident. My family didn’t have a car or anyway to get to the hospital. But here came Gilbert to my house to pick up me, my grandma, my mom, and whomever would fit in his car. He would take us up and back and did this multiple times as my brother held onto life. And he never asked for anything from us. He showed his true spirit of a giving and caring human being. For this, I am forever thankful! My wife and I send you all prayer, strength, and may his loving memories heal your hearts during this difficult time.

We were a team, you gave me so much advice, we talked family, life,  finances, politics, religion, There are days I walk in the door and think you're going to be there and days I wish you were, your life was short and the time around you and the family will never be forgotten. You treated me like a son  Daniel, Gabriel, Ben I know the good times and I also knew the days I wish I wasn't you guys and wish I had your #s  to warn you guys to run. 
Gil you asked me everyday how my wife was and to take care and be good to her always asked about my family You will always be missed by me and my wife

Where do I start we have so many memories as high school sweet hearts, as husband/wife and parents of three beautiful boys who grew up to be Great sons and men, they all have something that remind me of you a Gardner, a Repairman and a Golfer.  Thank you for sharing your memories with me.  I wish we would of had more time to make more memories in our new home in Beaumont, but God saw you were tired
And heard our prayers no more suffering and took you home.

Dad, I'm gonna miss you so much, I'm gonna miss going to the golf range to practice , waking up early to go play golf, I wish I could have went one last time to play golf with you. But I know your golfing up in heaven with everyone you missed dearly, and don't worry about mom, Gabriel, Daniel and I will take care of her! This isn't a goodbye, it's a see you later! ❤️

Gil was always so kind to us. Never treated us like a vendor, more   like a friend. Your kindness was/is appreciated and never went unnoticed. You made light of bad days, brought a smile to us  and made us laugh. We miss you.

Although 2 Halloween’s ago every visit was like yesterday full of laughs and good times.  With a heavy heart, thank you for all the memories.  See you on the other side oxox 

The Holloween Bencomo parties were the Best, Gilbert was a great Host, always very Kind and Nice  to me and my family, my deepest condolences to the Bencomo Family , we love you Dearly . Luv Cuz G
