I love you and miss you everyday. Thank you for everything. We were a great team.

John, you will be missed here on earth.  We have been blessed to know you.  Your love and concern was genuine.  Thank you for so many great memories.  You were an interesting child (little brother); curious, persistent, and entertaining.  Childhood memories include: tantrums, Susie's haircut (with the garden trimmers),and the distinction of being the only one the 8 of us to get spanked by Gram (at least the only one I know of) after running out into the street on Beverly Blvd.  I know Rob has lots more memories and stories to tell.
   There are innumerable  stories of John as an adult helping people.  John coming to the rescue of children and adults for everything from car troubles, broken pipes, plumbing problems, electrical issues, computers,...  This gift of serving others is a great reminder that John lived as Jesus taught us to "Love one another as I have loved you".  John did.
   Thanks, appreciation and admiration go to Marlyn, John and Jackie for their devotion and love.  These last couple of years have been a challenge and their dedication is an example to all of us.  Please let us know if we can help in any way.  We love you

Uncle John was the perfect example of what it means to be a Family-Man. I hyphenate it to emphasize both words.  "Family", because he always put his family first. And by "his family", I mean all of us. With his gentle smile and his genuine concern he made everyone feel loved and accepted no matter how distant of a relative they were or how far they had drifted from the family's core that he was so much a part of.  

"Man", because underneath his soft spoken voice and his peaceful demeanor was a true man.  He never boasted, but his feats were legendary.  As a kid I heard that he had such a high vertical leap that he could stand underneath the basket and jump up and dunk the ball without a running start.  He once chased down a thief who had stolen from Albertsons on foot. I can't remember the whole story, but I'm pretty sure at one point it was him versus a car and he ended up in a cast.  And speaking of him versus a car, he is the only man I have ever known who could completely take apart and put back together a Porsche. 

He was as tough as they come. As sick as he was the last few times I saw him, he never let on. He never complained and he never seemed to want any sympathy for what he was going through. 

I'm thankful for all the years that he has been there for me as an uncle and a friend. It hurts to think that I won't be able to give him a hug again  or sit down and catch up at the next family get-together, but I know that he will live on in the lives of all of us that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Dear John,
The Ostler Family will miss you dearly. You gave us so many wonderful memories that will forever live on, in our hearts. You helped us when we needed support and you gave us so many wonderful memories being your neighbors. I'll miss seeing you at the mail box and saying hello early in the morning. You will always be in our memories everyday. Thank you for the firecrackers that you gave to Brian Sr. for 4th of July. If I can find them, I will let Brian Sr. light them this year in memory of you. We will be there for Marlyn if she should need us. Marlyn give us a call or stop in any night you want to visit. We are there for you and I'm sure John won't mind if we party at our place. He knows you won't get pulled over cause its just a short walk.  Thank you John Carroll for being such a wonderful neighbor and great  role model for the kids when they were growing up. Thank you for always being there for myself, my sister and my mom! I will always know how much you loved us all and I am so grateful that God gave me you as a uncle and a Godfather. Thank you for always making us laugh and joking with us. The best memories I have are of the wonderful smile and all the jokes you would have for me, from teasing me about pulling my loose teeth out with pliers to asking me to do jackknifes in the pool you were always joking. You truly lived a wonderful happy life. You and aunt Marlyn were always there for me and always sent such a great example of love. I love you and you will forever be in my heart!

I am definitely going to miss coming over and having you be the one who greets me at the door. The joking would immediately begin before you would even let me in. You always showed interest in what was going on in everyones lives from school to work to family and friends. You were always so welcoming, kind and humble and you will be truly missed. Thanks for always reminding Jackie and I to stay out of trouble on our way out the door no matter where we were headed that day. You were a great father to one of my best friends and l feel lucky to have known you.

You were not only my big brother, you were also my good friend. As children we played together, as teenagers we grew up, as young adults we learned to love & raise our families. You were always there for me during these times, leading the way. Whenever I would call you, you always had an answer with the wisdom I needed. Many people talk about how important family is to them, but the way you lived your life demonstrated it more than words could. You were always there for all of us. Whenever there was something to be done, you never had to be asked, you just did it. Thank you. 

You had less time here than any of us would have wished, but you used the time you had well. You and your wife were best friends. Anyone who spent time with the two of you could see how deeply you both cared for each other. Together you raised two children who became smart, kind, successful adults. It's hard to think of a better legacy than that, but you added to that being a great son, sibling, uncle and friend. We will miss you.

Johnny boy- you were an incredible father and I am so blessed to have known you through your incredible daughter. Your legacy will live on through you're incredibly humble and strong kids. I will always remember your sense of humor and how you were continually gracious and kind to those around you. Thank you for the laughs and all the support you've given me. But most of all thanks for raising a daughter to be one of the best people I have ever known.   You will be missed but Heaven is that much greater knowing your presence is there.

You were always kind. You were always helping everyone. My kids loved playing with you. Thank you for being you. We must remember that we are just visiting this world. And I thank god for the time he aloud us to have with you on earth. Although it never seems long enough when we are still left behind.  We will see you again in our father's house in heaven. I can only imagine what peace you are enjoying.

You were the best of us and you are gone too soon.  Thanks for good memories of your sense of humor, kindness, patience and striving to do the right thing.  Your heart was always with your family; they remain a loving testament to the great husband, father, brother and uncle that you were.  God blessed us all through you; you will be missed.

When I think of a candle and the light it gives it reminds me of what a shining light you were to those around you. Your smile could light up any room. You have a huge heart and always willing to share everything you were blessed with. Even when you were so sick you were always asking about everyone else and trying to find out how you could help others. Our talks and tears we shared will always be some of my most treasured memories... I will miss you and I love you so much!!!
