Norma V. Perez, 74 years of age, passed away at home with her family on Sunday, June 3, 2018. She leaves behind her sister Sylvia Martinez, son Rene Perez, daughter in law Nancy Perez, daughter Michelle Thompson, son in law Daniel Thompson, son Michael Perez, daughter in law Samantha Perez, daughter Suzette Perez-Tate, son in law Dwayne Tate, 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was retired from Verizon Wireless and previously spent many years working for Macy's where she gained lifelong friends. Upon retiring, Norma grew even closer to her faith and became involved in the church making rosaries, wedding lassos, knitting for a variety of charities and most of all, gained a sisterhood of dear, close friends. Her faith meant so much to her and brought her much comfort.
Norma was diagnosed with breast cancer 13 years ago, battled it daily, and found herself cancer free two years after her diagnosis. In 2010, her cancer metastasized into her lung and was given 2-4 years to live. She was a strong woman that fought back, even to the very end as she exceeded her prognosis and continued to live 8 more years. “Norma Jean” or “Normsy” as we affectionately call her, was a great example as a mother to her children and grandchildren. She loved to laugh, have fun and was content, but not complacent in life. She was optimistic, never gave up, and met obstacles/challenges head on. Norma never made excuses and always went into “fix it” mode. She never hid behind the cancer and never let it define her. Her beautiful smile and spirit will be forever remembered.
